Inez Derkx, PhD

Postdoctoral researcher

I apply interdisciplinary approaches to infectious disease modeling and ONE Health research, combining my background in evolutionary biology, demography, population genetics, and network science with my interests in public health, epidemiology, zoonotic diseases, and climate change. My research currently focuses on modeling the spread of different canine diseases, with a strong emphasis on zoonoses such as rabies and leptospirosis, using mathematical, network and spatial modeling methods.

I currently hold a postdoctoral research position at the Swiss TPH in Basel, Switzerland, where I am part of the SNSF-funded 'Tracking Tails' project within the Disease Modeling Group. I previously concluded my PhD in Evolutionary Biology in January 2025 at the University of Zurich in the Human Evolutionary Ecology group, during which I worked with hunter-gatherers living in Nepal.

I am based in Zurich, Switzerland and open to collaborations and supervision of MSc students, bachelor theses and short-term internships.
